More about the course

The course requires only ONE weekend of face-to-face sessions at the Lotte City Hotel, Mapo, Seoul, Korea [map]; the remainder of the course consists of an action research project based on reflective teaching of your own classroom environment. You will work closely with the course director to gain a better understanding of how to reach your students and deliver effective lesson plans and activities.

There are five stages to the course, each of which needs to be completed prior to receiving your certificate:

  • Stage 1 - Complete two short prep assignments prior to the course residentials.
  • Stage 2 - Attend two face-to-face residential sessions (over ONE weekend in Seoul, Korea)
  • Stage 3 - Following the residentials, complete one lesson plan per week for the next four weeks to submit for the course. The lesson plans must follow the task-based language teaching (TBLT) or Present-Practice-Perform (PPP) methodologies. Teachers need to develop the lesson plans and submit them to the teacher trainer prior to using them in class. The teacher trainer will provide feedback on the lesson plan before you teach it.
  • Stage 4 - Evaluate each lesson and the overall effectiveness of implementing the methodologies in the classroom. Things to consider are student participation, did the phases of the methodologies fulfill their purposes, clarity of expressions, lesson objectives, etc... Submit this to the teacher.
  • Stage 5 - Complete a test over the course booklet and information from the residentials.

Upon completion, you are sent your TESOL certificate!

The course takes a minimum of four weeks. You will work closely with the course director to attain a solid grasp of the areas of focus in the course that are most pertinent to you. At the end, you will be awarded with a 120-hour certificate that is recognized around the world by public schools, private academies and universities.

See what some previous course participants have said about this course:

"I really enjoyed this TESOL course, because it gives great insight and depth into teaching methods. Most Native English-Speaking teachers who come to Korea experience difficulties because they do not know to structure materials to teach the class. In addition, programs such as EPIK do not provide enough Teacher's Training for the English teachers. I loved this course, and I would recommend it to anyone. It has helped me improve my afterschool classes (lower-level elementary students).

People might think that this course cost too much. But is it worth every won! It is so effective and more Task Based rather than the traditional presentation, practice, production and conclusion. People please invest in this course. It will make your teaching career more enjoyable, and your students will learn English!" --Julie An Nguyen

"I live in Seoul, so one would figure that I could obtain a certificate closer, but this class seemed to be the most organized, informative, and legit, and it was... I learned many things... some of which only 2 days after, I've already applied to my classes... It was such a great investment and a lot of fun too... " --Steph Baer

"Enjoyed the October seminars immensely. If you are looking for a TESOL course I don't think you can do any better than with the Asian EFL Journal." --Chris S

"I attended the October course and must say: It was educational, enjoyable and practical… This training program comes highly recommended and the information is useful." --Eon Adriaan van Dieman
